gPhoto 0.5.0-pre - the GNU Digital Camera Program
=================================================

gPhoto downloads, views and manages pictures on digital cameras.
It has a GTK+ window with a numbered thumbnail index of everything
on the camera, and a command-line mode for scripts.

This is a pre-release of gPhoto 0.5, the bridge between the original
gPhoto 0.4 program (1998-2000), which carried its camera drivers
inside, and the libgphoto2 era, where those drivers live in a shared
library. gPhoto 0.5 keeps the 0.4 way of working - pictures are
numbered from 1, -n/-s/-t/-d on the command line, the HTML gallery -
and gets every camera libgphoto2 supports in return (over 2,600
models with libgphoto2 2.5.31, over USB, serial and PTP/IP, plus
mass-storage cards).

Features
--------

  * Auto-detection of connected cameras, or any model/port by hand
  * Picture index with thumbnails, loaded in the background
  * Thumbnails made by gPhoto for cameras that cannot provide them
  * Save pictures or thumbnails; delete; upload; take a picture
  * Picture viewer with rotate, flip, scale and zoom; EXIF
    orientation is honoured, unedited pictures are saved byte-exact
  * Camera configuration dialog built from the driver's settings
  * Camera summary, driver manual and driver information
  * HTML gallery publishing
  * Command-line mode compatible with gPhoto 0.4 switches
  * Builds without GTK+ (--disable-gui) for servers and kiosks

Requirements
------------

  libgphoto2  >= 2.5.0
  GLib        >= 2.68
  gdk-pixbuf  >= 2.36
  GTK+ 3      >= 3.22   (only for the graphical interface)

Building
--------

From a release tarball:

  ./configure --prefix=/usr
  make
  make install

From git:

  ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr
  make

Use ./configure --disable-gui for a command-line-only build.

Using gPhoto
------------

Run "gphoto" to open the window; it connects to the first camera it
finds.  On the command line:

  gphoto -a                          list connected cameras
  gphoto -n                          number of pictures
  gphoto -l                          list pictures
  gphoto -s all -o ~/Pictures/trip save every picture
  gphoto -s 1,3,5-9 save some pictures
  gphoto -t last -o thumb.jpg save the newest thumbnail
  gphoto -d 1-3 --force delete pictures
  gphoto -c -o now.jpg take a picture and save it
  gphoto --html web --title Oslo publish an HTML gallery

Any folder can be opened as a camera, which is handy for memory cards
and for trying gPhoto out without a camera:

  gphoto -m "Directory Browse" -p disk:/media/card -l

See gphoto(1) and doc/MANUAL for the details.
