gPhoto 0.5.0-pre (2026-10-10)
=============================

First pre-release of gPhoto 0.5.

Camera support
  * All camera drivers now come from libgphoto2 (>= 2.5) instead of
    being built into gPhoto. Every camera libgphoto2 supports works,
    over USB, serial, PTP/IP and mass storage.
  * Cameras are auto-detected; model and port can also be chosen by
    hand, with completion over every supported model and port.
  * Folders on the camera are walked recursively; pictures are
    numbered from 1 in folder and name order, as in 0.4.

User interface (GTK+ 3)
  * Menu bar, toolbar, thumbnail index and status bar, as in 0.4.
  * Thumbnails load in the background; the window stays usable.
  * New picture viewer with rotate, flip, scale and zoom.
  * New camera configuration dialog, generated from the driver.
  * Upload to camera, take picture, camera summary, driver manual.
  * Actions are enabled only when the camera can perform them.

Command line
  * 0.4 switches kept: -n, -s, -t, -d.
  * New: -a, -l, -c, -u, --summary, --manual, --about, --html,
    --list-cameras, --list-ports.
  * Ranges such as 1,3,5-9, "last" and "all".
  * Deleting asks first, or needs --force when not on a terminal.

Other
  * gPhoto makes its own thumbnails for cameras that have none.
  * Saved pictures keep the camera's time stamp.
  * HTML gallery output rewritten: responsive, dark-mode aware.
  * Builds with --disable-gui for a command-line-only gphoto.
  * Build system: autoconf 2.69 / automake 1.11 or newer.

Known issues in this pre-release
  * No live preview window yet.
  * No translations yet.
  * The viewer edits in memory; there is no undo.
